Case Study: How Makpar Brought Federal IT Modernization to Life

In the government arena, the ability to process vast amounts of electronic information exchanges between government agencies and external trading partners can be tremendously challenging.

For example, one Makpar government agency customer has more than 130,000 external trading partners and 1.2 million files that are currently processed.

The combination of this system needing to be upgraded to handle over 5.6 million files, and increased filing capacity mandated by congressional legislation, pointed to an urgent need for a comprehensive IT modernization effort.

As a result, Makpar worked directly with the customer to enhance the mission-critical Document Submission Process application to align with the agency’s overall IT modernization program goals.

This involved optimizing database performance and streamlining processes through system analysis, agile iteration, continuous testing and improvement, as well as adhering to agency best practices.

Here are the results of this effort:

  • Increased filing capacity to 5.6 million files, accommodating a larger volume of external trading partners.

  • Ten-fold increase in submission processing capacity due to performance improvements.

  • Upgraded database to SQL Server 2019 to leverage new features and enhancements.

  • Received commendations from the Branch Chief for outstanding software development, problem-solving skills, and effective project management.
