Cloud Migration
Cloud migration is an important new trend in IT infrastructure that can vastly improve a company’s work flow and technological capacity. Migrating to the Cloud offers increased effectiveness of data health, increased IT systems performance, and major savings in an agency’s IT budget.
Taking advantage of the Cloud’s features can be as simple as replacing an in-house application with a Cloud-based service, or as thorough as relocating your entire application workload into public cloud space. Our experience can help you determine best candidates for migration, and start looking towards the modernization of your environment.
This is a process that requires a lot of nuance. Just like our agile process, we enact a constant Discovery Process to ensure that we are making the most out of the migration, potential cost savings, and the most effective use of the technology.
Client Benefits
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner
We are thrilled to announce that Makpar is now an official AWS partner at the Select Tier status. We are excited to extend these benefits to our clients to help them create the most efficient cloud strategies to achieve mission success.
Our Cloud Migration Strategy
Ongoing Discovery
What makes us stand out is we have an in-depth discovery process. To ensure we have an absolute full understanding of what applications, servers, and data you’re working with, we start with an in-person (or virtual, given the times) interview discovery. Then, we visit your data centers to physically examine servers to get a thorough understanding of exactly what needs to be moved, right down to serial numbers. Only then can we have a reasonable conversation to plan the migration.
Efficiency Built In
Often clients don’t realize the efforts being duplicated by too many servers or the capabilities they don’t realize their existing applications have that they’re underutilizing. Makpar is here to make your life easier and make your systems run to the best of their ability.
Staff Augmentation
Many clients have brilliant IT engineers on staff who are capable of planning and implementing a cloud migration, but lack the bandwidth, given their normal workload, to focus on a migration project. That’s where we come in. We can augment your IT staff to enact a full-process cloud migration so your team can still focus on what’s most important: getting your work done and keeping your business running.
The stages of cloud migration
Rationalized Analysis
Our cloud migration experts will sit down to rationalize each current application’s work load and ability. Some of these legacy applications won’t be able to move to the public cloud, due to outdated developer builds. Others will be a sure-fire fit for the move.
Ongoing Discovery
Discovery lasts the entirety of the process. Through an interview as well as a data-center visit to throughly understand every facet of the work loads we’re migrating, we’re able to make the most intelligent plans for the migration.
Planning & Organizing
From the findings in the above phases, we create a visual map in which we group the migrations into work loads. Work loads are determined by business function. Applications are interdependent in surprising ways. We use this opportunity to group applications together for increased overall functionality within the IT system.
Implement
Then, we divide those work loads into specific migration waves. With each migration wave, we set up an implementation session. Each implementation session will depend on how we’ve agreed we’ll move each group, depending on the work load’s specific needs. This may be a lift & shift, replace with different servers, or utilize a third party for advanced migration needs.
How We Address Common Challenges
Challenge: Legacy applications are too expensive to repair.
Solution: It can be more cost efficient to invest in a new and better application that is cloud compliant and more technologically up to date.
Challenge: Legacy applications are unable to move to the cloud due to outdated technological builds.
Solution: Save money by replacing these with more cost efficient, cloud-compliant versions.
Challenge: Some applications could be salvaged and still used, but need to be looked at more in depth.
Solution: We break things down and look for how to make them cloud compliant.
