Makpar Honors National STEM Day with Pledge to Bring More Women Into Government IT

November 8th marks National STEM Day, which encourage kids to explore science, technology, engineering, art and math with the goal of achieving prosperous careers in this arena.

Now more than ever, advancing STEM opportunities for young people in the United States has never been more important. According to the Pew Research Center, U.S. students continue to lag behind many other advanced industrial nations.

Fortunately, female STEM workers have increased from 8 percent in 1970 to 27 percent in 2019. While this is a dramatic increase, women are still under-represented in STEM fields, and more needs to be done, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Last month, the Department of Education launched its “YOU Belong in STEM” campaign, which aims to create a broader STEM education ecosystem from Pre-K through higher education.

As a family- and women-owned business, Makpar also continually aims to provide STEM-related job opportunities for women and young people. Here are some examples of Makpar’s female government IT experts in action:

  • Aurora Parisea, a Full Stack Developer at Makpar: Aurora discusses how she built a neural network for the Makpar Innovation Lab, and why neural networks are important for government, in this Fed Mission Success podcast interview.

  • Phung Ngo, UX/Front End Developer at Makpar: In this Q&A interview, Phung  discusses her transition from being an intern at Makpar to taking over the role of being the UX/Front End Developer at the company.

In addition, Makpar fully supports working moms by allowing them to achieve the most optimal work-life balance for maximum productivity and happiness. In honor of Women’s Month 2022, we also published this round table Q&A with several female Makpar employees.
