Cybersecurity 101: What is Cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is the process of protecting systems, networks, and programs from attack. Cyber attacks are aimed at extorting sensitive identity information, money, or preventing businesses from functioning successfully. In 2020, we’re more connected than ever – from our cell phones to our laptops to all of the sites we use.

According to a recent study by the University of Maryland, every 39 seconds a hack is taking place somewhere in America. These attacks affect one in three Americans every year. 43% of these attacks target small businesses and individuals with non-secure usernames and passwords, but also sometimes they’ll attempt major institutions like the Federal Government. Since the pandemic hit this year, cyber attacks have reportedly increased by 300% according to the FBI. Most companies take up to 6 months to detect a data breach.

These numbers are staggering and extremely concerning, which is all the more reason that cybersecurity should be a top priority for individuals, companies, and the Federal Government.

At Makpar, our ethos is staying on the cutting-edge of technology so we can ensure we keep our clients at the Federal government safe from every possible attack. This has led us to operate the largest civilian facing user verification systems in the Federal government, ensuring that only the right people get access at the right time. Identity, Credential, and Access Management is an incredibly important step to protecting American data from the threat of leaks. We’ve also been on top of supporting Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation, the standard for the U.S. government, which ensures that all cybersecurity risks are assessed on an ongoing basis – a necessity to keep up with the threat of attacks. These are just a few examples, as all of our services are built on innovation solutions for security and safety.

As you can see, making sure the Federal government is on the cutting-edge of implementing cybersecurity best practices is incredibly important to the safety of the nation.
